About this space
A place to settle in and get things done.
Bridge 5 Mill is a characterful, sustainably refurbished Victorian silk mill on the edge of Ancoats in Manchester, now serving as a centre for social change. It brings together affordable workspaces, flexible event spaces and a supportive network for organisations working on environmental, social and community-led projects. Its setting beside the Ashton Canal and its distinctive industrial character give the building a strong sense of place. The workspace offer includes private offices across three floors, alongside hot-desking options for remote workers, freelancers and small teams. Members benefit from high-speed broadband, building reception, kitchen and refreshments, breakout and leisure areas, secure bike storage, a canal-bound garden and access to meeting rooms. Additional practical services include mailbox hire, printing and laminating, and cabinet storage, making the space useful for both established organisations and individuals developing purpose-led work. For meetings and events, the Silk Loft provides a spacious setting with red-brick walls, oak beams and far-reaching views, while the Canal Side Room looks over the water and suits workshops, training, meetings and smaller conferences. The Flaxworks offers a relaxed foyer for community gatherings, networking, gigs and exhibitions, and the Spinning Room is designed for focused work, interviews and smaller meetings. Sustainability is central to the experience: the mill uses ethical and sustainable purchasing, recycled and repurposed materials, solar panels, water-saving measures, composting and reduced single-use plastics. It is also a vegetarian building. Whether you are a charity, co-operative, campaigner, creative, researcher or community group, Bridge 5 Mill offers an inclusive base where people can work, collaborate, learn and connect.
